On Saturday February 7th, 2009, (Black Saturday,) almost the whole of the state of Victoria was on fire.
400 fires existed across the State.
5000 homes,
35,000 buildings,
176 people ( incomplete official estimate)
and vast amounts of territory were ravaged by the " greatest civilian disaster " in peacetime Australia's written history.
The metropolis of Melbourne, was only saved by a change in the direction of the wind, as were many areas.
A nearby town, Toolangi was ringed by fire, for 40 days, friends lost their homes and in some cases their lives.
It has been a time of great grieving, and joyful challenging recovery as well.
The Centre for Human Transformation, a lifetime project of over 37 years was devastated on this day,
and by the subsequent floods which have damaged roads, bridges, and the remaining tracks and buildings, and many precious contents which were not destroyed by the fires.
Reconstruction has begun, and you are invited to be part of these activities.
